Olympic Aftermath

Since Olympic has come to an end... Let's talk about what we gained from it instead...

For 48 YEARS, Singapore finally receives another MEdal. The women's table tennis team of Singapore has clinched a Silver medal in the Beijing Olympics. So when was the previous medal won?? Make a guess?? 2008-48 = 1960.

(In 1960, Weightlifter Howe-Liang Tan won silver as well, in the 77kg category in Rome, Italy.)

If you followed the news, there are a lot of commotions going on
- Country's table tennis team manager has been told he is no longer needed after the team won the medal (Some misunderstanding here I guess)
- STTA president who has been in office for just over a month faced harsh criticism for her remarks and "decisions".
- Gao Ning, table tennis player for the men's team, fought in the competition without a coach. He was told that a coach will come, and when the officials asked him twice before the competition whether his coach is coming. He repeatedly said yes and explained that the coach may be late due some arising matters. 30 Mins into the match, he still pins hope that a coach will come and guide him along. Upset, he cried after the match.

Sometimes I feel that the media is so powerful that it may show truth, one sided story or magnifies a small issue into something exaggerating. A lot of misunderstanding arise from how the press phrase the report and the way audience interprets it. The intended meaning can be easily distorted through harsh phrasing in the article.

Anyway, the next Olympic will be held in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012.

So will our nation sustain and go to a higher level during the next Olympic. Find out in 4 years time.
